I bought this product some time last year. I installed it myself then after a few weeks I got a message on my desk top telling me that this version of Windows was not genuine.
Because I’d bought from Amazon I thought maybe I’d done something wrong. So I took the devise to a computer repair shop, who re installed the soft ware and said they verified the product key with Microsoft.
4 weeks later I got a pop up each time I turned the devise on asking me to enter the product key to verify the software also telling me the Windows 7 may not be genuine.
I’m not really happy about this purchase and am not using the lap top much now.

I have separately ordered 2 of these, using them to upgrade a pair of old machines straight through to Windows 10 pro.

Delivery in both cases was quicker than the estimate, arriving in a couple of days. The packaging varied on each one, one came in a hard case, one in a cardboard sleeve, and in both cases, although the discs were well packed and protected, the packaging didn’t look amazingly authentic. However, in both cases the discs worked exactly as specified, installing Windows 7 pro without a hitch, and they both arrived with the all important windows product code.

Authentication of the installations using the included product code needed to be done via the automated (free) phone service, as neither one managed to authenticate online. However, this only took a couple of minutes and was straightforward to do, leaving both machines working correctly running genuine Windows 7 Pro installations. In both cases I then upgraded them straight to windows 10 pro without issue.

Returned as this is an OEM version meaning once installed it cannot be transferred to another computer and will disable itself if you were to upgrade a component in your system. It also does not come in the official Windows packaging shown on the image nor is it an original Windows installation disk but ,as mentioned, a refurbished copy from Dell I believe. Furthermore an optical drive is needed to install this as you are unable to download the Windows ISO from the Microsoft website using an OEM version of windows

I purchased this OS through Amazon Prime thinking it would ensure that I’d at least get a genuine product. How wrong can you be? It only goes to show that you cannot even trust Amazon over the likes of a well known auction site. My first hint of something a bit fishy appeared on the outer sleeve with the misprint of the line “Printer ID No.”, it actually read “Priter ID No.”. Somehow I don’t think Microsoft would make such an error. On opening the sleeve and removing the CD I also noticed the hologram in the centre, although looking authentic, could not be read from both sides correctly. Further examination proved that the hologram was in fact a sticky label and I was able to lift one edge with my finger nail.
The statement “product is original as shown” is false. My packaging did not look anything like the illustration (See attached photos),
I have returned my order to Amazon for a full refund and suggest that any prospective purchaser avoid this software.

I chose to buy this and also the 32-bit equivalent (from the same seller) primarily so as to give me a route to Windows10 for one PC and an update from Vista to Windows7 on a lower-spec laptop. In both situations, the software worked fine – but with one significant proviso: I had all manner of trouble getting the Windows Update service to work.

Initially, I was concerned that this was an issue with the software; that I had been sold a fraudulent copy or a somehow damaged version. In fact, that is definitely not the issue. It seems that everyone installing and/or updating Windows 7 is currently having problems with the Microsoft Windows Update service.

If you’re in that same position as I was (and pretty much everyone else is) then there is a very simple solution: a freeware product called ‘WSUS Offline’ – available here: http://download.wsusoffline.net/

This downloads the current Windows Update entries, filters them as appropriate, and then builds a local folder collection of updates along with an installation application. Once the filter is complete, run the installation app – and then wait two or three hours for it to complete. At the end of this process, magically the voodoo of Microsoft makes the Windows Update run properly from that point on. End of problem.

The sellers for this product were very responsive to the installation issues, at least confirming to me that everyone else was having the same difficulties. The product was delivered on time and (with the proviso above) works perfectly.
